Create a Link to a Download, Website Page, or Email

The Simple Web Manager allows you to insert a clickable link into the content of your website.

These are the main items usually linked to:

  1. Link to a downloadable file, usually a PDF.
  2. Link to another web page. You can link to any web page with an URL, including on your own website.
  3. Link to an email address.

1. Link To A Downloadable File.

You must already have a file in your Downloads module to link to. See how to add a file to your Downloads module.

Go to the page where you would like to add the link.

Highlight the words to turn into an active link, and click on the link (chain) icon to open the Link box. In the example below 'link' was highlighted. These highlighted words containing the link are called 'anchor text'.

The default is to link to 'Something on your website'. Click on '--select--' in the box below, and scroll down to Downloads. Your published attachments will be available to click on. If your PDF attachment does not appear, go back to the Downloads module and make sure the file is 'published'. Click on OK.

2. Link To A Web Page.

Highlight the words to turn into an active link, and click on the link (chain) icon to open the Link Box. In the example below, the word 'link' was highlighted. Select 'Something on your website', and click on the page you want to link - this example makes a link to the Contact Page.

Creating a link: Tips and Reminders

Remember to Save Changes.

Always test the link on your website to make sure it's working.

If you hover your mouse over the link button, the help text 'Insert/Edit Link' will pop up. This works for all the buttons in the edit bar.

To cancel a link, highlight the linked words and click on the break link icon.
